Awards at ECEM 2019

The Keith Rayner Memorial Award

To commemorate the profound influence Prof. Rayner exerted in the field of eye movements and cognitive psychology, as well as his legacy of mentorship, the Rayner Memorial Award was established in 2015. The Rayner Memorial Award is given to a graduate student presenting an oral communication at the biannual European Conference on Eye Movements (ECEM) to recognize outstanding early career contributions to research on eye-movement measurement techniques to study perceptual or cognitive processes. The award takes the form of a monetary prize.

The SR-Research Poster Award

This year ECEM is continuing the practice of acknowledging excellence in student eye-tracking research with awards for the top student posters in the categories of:

  1. basic oculomotor research,
  2. cognitive research (including reading) and
  3. applied research (usability, technical innovation, new media, education, etc.).

A team of judges will decide from among the candidates and the top posters will be awarded the SR Research Poster Award, which apart from prestige, includes a monetary prize.

The criteria for the poster awards are:

  • Scientific merit in terms of novelty and importance.
  • Methodological excellence and appropriate reporting.
  • Ability of the author to explain and discuss the content of the poster.

To Be Considered for the Awards

If you are a student and you are presenting a talk at ECEM 2019 (i.e., you are the primary author on the presentation and you will deliver the presentation), then you are eligible for the Rayner Memorial Award, while student presenters of posters qualify for the SR Research Poster Awards. Any person wishing to be considered for one of the awards will be required to send a concise significance statement (max. 240  characters), and a declaration that the presenter will be a student at the time of the presentation, using an online form accessible from within the personal area of the ECEM 2019 website (link to Rayner Memorial Award/SR Research Poster Award on the left-hand-side menu). Please note whether you are presenting a talk or a poster and the category to be considered in for the latter.  To be considered for the awards, significance statements must be submitted before July 15th- EXTENDED. Any abstracts submitted after this point will not be considered. All the eligible abstracts will be evaluated by the adjudication committee comprised of well-respected colleagues who will attend the conference. The decision of the committee will be announced at the end of the ECEM conference in Alicante.
